Myself and housemate Allan as Bernard and Purple Tentacle from the legendary 90's LucasArts adventure game 'Day of the Tentacle.'
This was our group cosplay effort for AyaCon 2005, though Purple made another appearance at MCM London Expo Oct'06, and generally stands as an attraction in our living room otherwise.
Bernard was mostly a side effort to act as Al's spotter since it's pretty hard to see and move in that thing. He's not short, just very flexible.
It's a foam 'skeleton' consisting of a cone shape with holes for the mouth and arms, and a fabric skin. The shrink ray lights up when a button inside is pressed; it's barely visible in daylight, sadly. The arms are stick-cored foam controlled from inside by Al crunching his hands behind his head
The mouth/middle sucker opens, as is a little too obvious from the rucked elastic, but a huge arm-controlled tongue can indeed lick his lips in true Purple Tentacle fashion!
Plus, he can hop around and chuckle to himself.
All of the foam and sewing-machine work on PT was my doing, Al did the handstitching and (hardest of all) piloting. End result: awesomeness. The convention staff liked it so much, we got thrown into the masquerade whether we wanted to or not After the submission deadline, and despite it not being anime-related. Hurrah.
That is f***ing fantastic! Amazing work on the costume, and a big hand to Allan for managing to navigate and move around in that thing. Surely would like to see it live some day

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
